San Diego Ride Without Limits

Welcome Everyone! My name is Nikee Pomper and I am the Production Coordinator for the San Diego Ride Without Limits event. Kevin asked me to update his blog. Kevin and Kirk are doing very well. Currently, they are just north of Santa Barbara. They say hello. I guess I should first start with last weekend’s Ride Without Limits

SAN DIEGO RIDE WITHOUT LIMITS

82 riders climbed onto their bikes for an unforgettable ride through San Diego last weekend. The participant field ranged from novice (one rider who’s longest ride prior to the event was 20 miles) to advanced (1 former pro rider who raced in France for years). The weather was a little warmer than usual- 80 and sunny. Kevin and Kirk (I’ll call them K&K for short) started off with a nice steady pace. They were planning on riding 100, until they passed a fellow ride, Karrie (see picture above), around mile 25. K&K rode to Pit 2 (mile 37) and decided that they were going to support Karrie and ride with him. K&K rode Kerrie into camp, where a crowd of about 40 cheered them in. Personal Note: Seeing the pure joy on Kerrie’s face as he rode into camp was the most inspirational, most emotional, most moving experience I’ve had in a long long time…In camp, K&K were figuring out their game plan when Kerrie approached and asked “when are we meeting tomorrow?” Kevin knew Kerrie needed them, so they were going to ride Kerrie’s pace (4-6 mph).

The 3 guys rolled out of camp around 7:45. They missed one of the turns and went off course for a bit. The boys arrive at Pit Stop 1 at 12:00 and were “swept” to Pit 2 to ride into the finish location. K&K were very satisfied with the event. Yes, they planned on riding more, but it was much more important to support Kerrie. At the end of the evening, the Event 360 staff gave K&K a pile of left over snacks (granola bars, chips, water, Gatorade…)

THE ROAD TO PORTLAND

The guys weren’t sure what route they were going to take out of San Diego on Monday, so I played tour guide and rode with them. We left from Robb Beach mid-morning to Solana Beach, the boys continued on to Oceanside. Tuesday, the guys made their way to Long Beach. Yesterday they rode to Oxnard. Today, they made their way just north of Santa Barbara. Mike did laundry today and Kirk’s bike computer is on the fitz. They guys are hoping to ride 100 miles tomorrow.

More from the guys tomorrow…
